Presentation of the amendments

On 17 December 1963, the General Assembly adopted, by a vote of 96 to 11, with 4 abstentions, amendments to Articles 23 and 27 (expanding the number of elected members of the Security Council from 6 to 10 and modifying the voting majorities accordingly) and to Article 61 (expanding the membership of the Economic and Social Council from 18 to 27 members); this amendment entered into force on 31 August 1965.
